eat rightKaren Meltzer - I was thin almost my entire life. I was always an active tennis player and a cardio fanatic. When I wasn't playing tennis, I was working out and vice versa. However, by the end of my senior year in college despite my active tennis schedule, every item of my clothing managed to fit tighter and tighter until I had to do the dreaded " fat clothes" shopping. After looking in the mirror I realized that I wasn't so little anymore. I became very unhappy. But no matter how much I worked out, the pounds did not seem to come off. To everyone else, I was not fat, but to all of those who were close to me, I was not the "little" Karen that I use to be. So after graduation I followed my father's lead and started taking sessions at Smart Bodies twice a week. With the addition of two lifting sessions, a slight increase in my cardio workouts. And better eating habits, the pounds just seem to fall off. I couldn't believe it. I never thought that I would see "little" Karen again, but with Smart Bodies’ help, I not only achieved my goal weight, I surpassed it. Now, I look in the mirror and think, "She's back". The little Karen I once knew is staring back at me!
Phil Reale: "I have been out of shape and badly overweight for at least ten years.  In the months before joining Smart Bodies in January, 2007, I was warned - twice - by my doctor that I was becoming borderline high blood pressure, and that put me at increased risk for stroke or heart attack.  Then, at the turn of the New Year, I received some photos taken on Christmas Eve.  What I saw shocked me.  I was so heavy that I realized anyone who had not seen me in twenty years would not recognize me, and I'm not referring to the color of my hair". fitness trainingBeth Leska - I was approaching my 39 th birthday and I looked in the mirror . At that moment. I realized I was allowing Father Time to win. Being a competitive person by nature, It occurred to me that I had a challenge to face. Thanks to Smart Bodies, I have gone from a size 10 to a size 4 in six months. I feel healthier and more confident than ever before. In fact, I am no longer afraid of turning 40, now I say "Bring it on"! *Melanie Sedien - I had been the same weight for nearly three years- 210 lbs. Certainly not skinny but it never bothered me enough to do anything about it. In July 2000 I moved fro New York . I was adjusting to a totally new life and I had a hard time. So I found myself turning to food. In February 2001 I got on the scale crept up to 231 pounds! I was mortified! It weas time to do something about it. Through exercise, proper nutrition and drinking plenty of water I began my road to success. By April 2002 I was able to shed 62 pounds on my own. I now needed to take it to the next level. Thanks to Smart Bodies I was able to reach my ultimate goal of 150lbs! They even took me past my goal and I now maintain my weight at 145 pounds. I couldn't be happier or more proud. All of the trainers have been a big help in my success! It has been an amazing experience, hence the reason I keep coming back!
smartbodiesAlicia Schwartz - "Growing up I was usually in pretty good shape and although I was nevcr skinny, I was definitely thinner. As I got older I got lazier.and therefore fatter. One day an actor I represent came into my office and in a very endearing way said, "Hey chubbs.how are you?" CHUBBS! He didn't mean anything by it. I know he didn't, but it was enough of a wake up call for me. That same day I called Smart Bodies and made an appointment with Anthony. After speaking with him I made a nutrition appointment and signed up for my first 15 sessions. That was Good Friday 2001. Now I'm addicted. Jeff and Nick kick my ass weekly and I love it. I especially love being strong. It affects everything.you gain more confidence in all aspects of life. Training is healthy both physically AND mentally. The best part is I feel I've made friends here, both with the trainers AND with the other people who work out here. Marcia Lavigne - So now you find yourself standing here in this foreign world, the gym! Looking at these pictures of people, that you can never be, wondering what I was thinking when I got in the car today and headed here. Then you hear the backround- music, laughter, life! So you slowly, quietly enter; hoping no one really notices that you are standing there. Luckily, they did notice that you walked in, and begin talking to you about the gym. If you are anything like I was when I first walked in, this is the impression that you have right now as you read my words; I walked through the doors of Smart Bodies as a potential "Desk Girl" and I was not all prepared for the impact that all of the people in this small community were going to have on my life. In my short time as a member of Smart Bodies family. I have completely changed my thoughts about food, exercise and myself. I no longer need to look to food as a means of completion, or use it for emotional satisfaction. My weight is not the root of all evil; instead it has become a small, manageable part of my life. Exercise, well it is natural to me now as breathing. Now, trust me when I tell you there is still time when sitting on the couch with a bag of chips is very tempting, but it no longer satisfying. My transformation began the moment I walked in Smart Bodies and really listened to the stories of all the people that are not necessarily on this wall. There are countless people here that have worked hard in order to take control of this portion of their life. They have done nothing but support, teach and challenge me through all of this change. SmartBodies Before After PhotoLinda Stone- "Since college I have been on a roller coaster ride watching my weight go up and down as I tried every new diet that came out on the market. I knew that I needed to get more exercise to help keep the weight off but the demands of my job seemed to always get in the way. Of course, it did not help that as much as I loved sports, I hated to exercise. Last Christmas I found that I had reached my all time heaviest weight. Not only did I find that I could not fit into the majority of my clothes but I found that my weight had started to negatively affect the way I felt about myself. Having heard about Smart Bodies for quite some time, I decided I had nothing to lose by giving it a try. Following my initial consultation, I immediately signed up for a nutritional counseling. This turned out to be the first diet I had ever been on where I was not starving myself. Being able to eat 5 times a day really made a difference for me and every meal was spelled out which made following it very easy. The other thing that made a difference for me was working with a personal trainer. Because I do not enjoy exercising, I knew that I needed someone working closely with me to make sure I was doing everything I needed to do and making sure that I was doing it right. As hard as it was for me to believe, this simple combination of diet and exercise helped me to lose 30 pounds and 14% body fat in four months. Melissa Durham- "I am 28 years old, 5' tall, and have been "heavy" all my life. In February of 1998, I joined a gym. I weighed 150 lbs; the heaviest I had ever been. SmartBodies Before After PhotoRob Blatt - "Being fit and trim has been something that has eluded me my entire life. No matter what I tried, I couldn't keep the weight off. I concluded that I had inherited the dreaded fat genes and was destined to be overweight my entire life. By sheer luck a friend of mine (thanks Ken) mentioned that he was thinking about working out at Smart Bodies and wondered if I would be interested in being his training partner. On a whim I called Smart Bodies to learn more! I learned how to eat smart and exercise my body. The whole experience exceeded every expectation! Within 6 months my cholesterol dropped from over 250 to 170 and I no longer needed Lipitor. Fourteen months later, my resting heart rate is under 60. I'm able to run 3-4 miles a day. I've lost 10 inches in my waist and dropped 2 shirt sizes. My family, friends, and co-workers hardly recognize me! I never thought I would be able to achieve this level of fitness. * Vicki Simon- "I had been thin for most of my life, until I had children. I gained 50 pounds with each pregnancy. After that I became a yo-yo dieter for about 15 years. I tried a lot of diets (Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig.) I was always successful losing the weight, but eventually I gained it all back. I never wore jeans because they were too uncomfortable, I always wore leggings and long top to try and hide all my fat. That's when I started working out with my trainer at Smart Bodies. He gave me a food plan to follow as well as trained me three times a week. It was truly amazing. I started to see results I never dreamed possible. SmartBodies Before After PhotoBeth Rose- After I had my baby 3 ½ years ago the weigh came off very easily. That was not the case with my second child last year. My regular exercise routine that helped me shed pounds after my first child didn't work after the second. I thought that I was destined to be a little heavier now that I was a mom of two. However, as I approached my 50 th birthday, career responsibilities, family commitments, and the rigors of everyday life I pushed my plans for personal fitness lower and lower on my priority list. When I look back at the past year, it's hard to believe that I made it Through a falling business, the sale of a successful one, a fall down 3 Flights of stairs, the gain of 25 pounds, selling my home, moving to a New city and turning 40 needless to say.a very stressful year. I noticed Smart Bodies while driving by one day, and decided to Check it out. From the moment I walked in, I knew that I had found a new home. Nick, you took the time to understand where I was coming from, and where I wanted to be. You told me that with the right combination of diet, cardio, and weightlifting under your supervision I could reach my goals. I found it hard to believe, because of my past experience with personal training I had always failed. You were so right Nick! Having just completed my 5 th week with Karla and yourself, I have lost weight and 2 inches in my waist, but most of all I feel like a completely new person. I can never remember feeling so up & positive about myself. My entire attitude is different. I feel good about myself, and that is Something I haven't felt in many years. My friends & family tell me constantly that they see a major change in my overall being. This is the first time in my life that I actually look forward to working out. Nick is the most positive trainer I have ever met. SmartBodies Before After PhotoFor about a year, my mom would constantly speak about a gym and how at seven o'clock every Thursday for months on end, she would visit a magical trainer named “Mary”. Me being 17 years old at the time and usually ignorant to everything, that came out of her mouth, I had no idea where or why she went to the same place at 7 every Thursday. One night she came home and explained to me that “Smart Bodies” was in need of a “front desk girl” and that she scheduled me for an interview. The rest of the conversation was full of whining about how I should get a second job because I am going to need it for college and a bunch of other stuff I seemed to block out. Against my will, I drove myself to the newly discovered location behind Arby's and crept up silently to the front door. I had no idea that it was a personal training facility; I had never seen such a place in my life. Not knowing what I was getting myself into, I waited patiently for Anthony (whoever he was) to come get me for my interview. Not long after I sat down, he approached me, speaking rapidly as usual. Walking into the back room was like an adventure; good music blaring, people complaining about their tired arms and legs. I remember little of the interview but just like that, I was thrown into the family we like to call Smart Bodies. I ended up quitting my other job and focused my attention on the place I now call home. Among my many months working here, “desk girls”, as well as numerous trainers, kept moving onto bigger and better things. I, the youngest and best member of the staff, remained solely committed to my workplace. The job at the front desk was not the most difficult thing in the world; however leaving my newly made family to go out in the real world, known as college, was. I had no idea what a profound effect this place had on my life until it came time to leave on August 22 nd . I had started up a routine of weight training at least twice a week and cardio on the other days without even realizing the positive influence it had. My diet is still moderately healthy, and I am now toned in places I never knew possible. Not only did I gain a spectacular pre-college body (not to brag or anything), but I now feel confident in saying I became part of a second family here at Smart Bodies. I encourage anyone looking to change his or her life for the better to check this place out; you will not regret it one bit
